Napa Cellars V Collection Cabernet Sauvignon 2013
“Our Saint Helena Cabernet Sauvignon is energetic while full, and chalky tannins lend structure. On the nose, I get ripe blackberry and black currant with savory herbal notes and a mild sage character. The freshness of the herbal notes gives way to rich blueberries, blackberries, and ripe dark fruit with a hint of black pepper. Well-integrated oak, and notes of vanilla, coffee and tobacco throughout fully express the tannins yet don’t overpower the long, smooth finish.” —Joe Shirley
Early, even and excellent are three words used to describe the 2013 growing season in Napa Valley. This was especially true in the Saint Helena appellation which generally ripens Cabernet Sauvignon early, relative to other growing areas in the valley. The 2013 season was marked by warm weather and no threat of rain, a dry spring brought early bud break. This created ideal conditions for flowering and fruit set under sunny skies. With the exception of one heat spike in late June, temperatures were consistent, resulting in notably healthy vines, which resulted in a nice amount of hang time and fully ripened fruit.
