Our 2008 vintage beautifully showcases the uniqueness of the Mount Veeder property. This elegant wine’s classic citrus and tropical fruit flavors become even more captivating when combined with the layers of lemony acidity and minerals that typify Mount Veeder. Our mountain-grown Chardonnay is a rich, multi-faceted wine with extraordinary aging potential.
At just five square miles, Mount Veeder is said to be the smallest and most unique appellation in Napa Valley. With its steep slopes, thin soils, scarce water and labor intensive viticulture, Mount Veeder is challenging to say the least. These stressful conditions, however, are exactly what create the distinctive, multidimensional flavors we admire so much in these mountain-grown grapes.
After hand-harvesting fruit exclusively from our vineyard atop Mount Veeder, the grapes were crushed and the resulting juice sent to 100% French Oak for barrel fermentation. Aging upon the lees for an additional eight months in barrel, this Chardonnay developed the character and complexity that are hallmarks of the sur lie technique.
