Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
The Napa Cellars 2015 Meritage is a sophisticated wine that delivers an opulent bouquet of brambly berries, dark cherry, dark plums and hints of chocolate nibs, white pepper and clove on the nose. These aromas unfold flavors of currants and dark cherry on the palate. This mouth-filling wine is rich and silky with great structure. Full-bodied, with heavily structured tannins, this wine is harmonious, elegant and balanced by nice acidity on the finish. The Napa Cellars 2015 Meritage is perfectly paired with braised short ribs drizzled with homemade barbeque sauce and a touch of rosemary.
Vineyard Notes
Grapes for the Napa Cellars 2015 Meritage are carefully selected from various vineyards and specific regions within the Napa Valley AVA. This red blend is made up of Petit Verdot and Malbec from vines in Coombsville, the Cabernet is sourced from Atlas Peak, Saint Helena and Oak Knoll vines and the Merlot is from Oak Knoll. These vines produce fruit with layers of complexity resulting in wines with earthy minerality and exceptional, natural acidity.
Production Notes
Once harvested, the fruit is carefully sorted, de-stemmed and gently crushed. To enhance color and flavor, extensive seed removal occurs and delestage procedures are incorporated during the 12-18 day maceration period. This process helps to release the aromatic characters to create full, round tannins. After fermentation, the wine is aged in 100% French oak barrels for 23 months.
Other Notes
61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 10% Petit Verdot, 9% Malbec
