Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
The Napa Cellars 2016 Meritage is a sophisticated wine that delivers an opulent
bouquet of dark plum, blackstrap molasses, black cherry, boysenberry, graphite and
hints of dusty notes, tobacco and dark roasting coffee on the nose. These aromas unfold
flavors of dark plum and berries on the palate. This mouth-filling wine showcases a
sturdy palate, tight structure and complex tannins as sweet treacle flavors persist on a
very long finish. The Napa Cellars 2016 Meritage is perfectly paired with braised short
ribs drizzled with homemade barbeque sauce and a touch of rosemary.
Vineyard Notes
Grapes for the Napa Cellars 2016 Meritage are carefully selected from various vineyards
and specific regions within the Napa Valley AVA. This red blend is made up of Petit
Verdot and Malbec from vines in Coombsville, the Cabernet is sourced from Atlas
Peak, Saint Helena and Oak Knoll vines and the Merlot is from Oak Knoll. These vines
produce fruit with layers of complexity resulting in wines with earthy minerality and
exceptional, natural acidity.
Production Notes
Once harvested, the fruit is carefully sorted, de-stemmed and gently crushed. To enhance
color and flavor, extensive seed removal occurs and delestage procedures are incorporated
during the 13-16 day maceration period. This process helps to release the aromatic
characters to create full, round tannins. After fermentation, the wine is aged in 99%
French oak and 1% Hungarian oak, 49% of which were new barrels, for 24 months.
Other Notes
Composition: 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Malbec, 21% Merlot, 9% Petit Verdot
