Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
“This bright, inviting wine showcases aromas of lemon rind, crème fraîche and white
peach framed by hints of pear. It is unmistakably Chardonnay, with its refreshing
acidity and complex flavors of lemon curd, granny smith apple and white peach with
toasted pie crust on the finish. A creamy, supple texture complements the clean, firm,
lingering acidity.” —Joe Shirley
Vineyard Notes
Grapes for the 2017 Reserve Collection Chardonnay were selected mostly from the
Mueller Vineyard in Carneros. Located in the southwestern portion of Napa Valley,
this vineyard is a level site with characteristics typical of the region; thin clay soils,
frequent wind and significant cloud cover. This vineyard offers ideal conditions
for Chardonnay, giving the fruit an extended ripening period and creating greater
complexity in the resulting wine.
Winemaker Notes
The 2017 growing season offered superlative growing conditions with abundant rain
at the beginning of the year. Harvest brought lower yields with fruit of excellent
quality. This wine was fermented in barrel with native yeast and underwent lees
stirring. In total, this Chardonnay was aged for 15 months in 37% new French oak.
